Summary

"Our time has come。 For three hundred years we prepared; we grew stronger while you rested in your cradle of power。 。 。 。 Now your Republic shall fall。"

A Sith warrior to rival the most sinister of the Order's Dark Lords, Darth Malgus brought down the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in a brutal assault that shocked the galaxy。 But if war crowned him the darkest of Sith heroes, peace will transform him into something far more heinous--something Malgus would never want to be but cannot stop becoming, any more than he can stop the rogue Jedi fast approaching。 Her name is Aryn Leneer--and the lone Jedi Knight that Malgus cut down in the fierce battle for the Jedi Temple was her Master。 Now she's going to find out what happened to him, even if it means breaking every rule in the book。

I'll be honest, due to the clip "STAR WARS: The Old Republic "Deceived", I had my expectations。I thought Malgus was the big bad that led the Sith Empire。I thought there would be more of a chance to see multiple Sith in action。But in the end, I still enjoyed it。SPOILERS:It was different than I expected。 It wasn't bad, it just didn't really have any weight。The one thing that disappointed me most was the peace negotiations continuing between the Jedi and Sith (again, due to expectations from the c I'll be honest, due to the clip "STAR WARS: The Old Republic "Deceived", I had my expectations。I thought Malgus was the big bad that led the Sith Empire。I thought there would be more of a chance to see multiple Sith in action。But in the end, I still enjoyed it。SPOILERS:It was different than I expected。 It wasn't bad, it just didn't really have any weight。The one thing that disappointed me most was the peace negotiations continuing between the Jedi and Sith (again, due to expectations from the clip aforementioned)。The little scuffle between Aryn and the Sith on Alderaan felt like it was setting up so much tension between the Jedi and the Sith。With Sith being Sith and Jedi being Jedi, I was thinking there were going to be attempted Jedi assassinations in the night, underhanded dealings behind the scenes, and other things that are likely to happen when a government changes overnight。I thought there would be more conflict between the two factions。 But it merely。。。said the negotiations continued and some boundaries were redrawn。 Like, that's it? What were the consequences or effects of these territories? What do the Sith gain? What do the Jedi lose?It leaves on an ending that leaves me wanting more because it left me unsatisfied。I think I prefer the trailer more than what this book offered。Which is why I gave it a 2/5。 。。。more

4。5/5 stars。 Malgus's POVs are AMAZING! They're perfect in everyway I could think of, the absolute Sith POV I'd always wanted to read about *chef's kiss*。 Zeerid's parts were pretty fillery though, he's absolutely not necessary to the story except to lengthen it。 Still this is definitely one of the best Star Wars novels I'd read for sure。 4。5/5 stars。 Malgus's POVs are AMAZING! Wow。 This book took me by surprised by how much I loved it。 The characters, plot and ending were executed beautifully。 The author really knows how to capture emotion and the epic-ness of Star Wars。 One of my all time favorite Star Wars books。 The only cons I have is how short it was as well as Aryn’s decision in the beginning of the book seemed a little forced。 Otherwise it was an amazing book。4。2 out of 5 stars (rounded down to 4)

Enjoyable, but not as good as the Bane or Thrawn novels。

Love the SWTOR Era and the first time reading I was in shock at the end。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Not as good as Revan。 I did enjoy the villian but I found the lead Jedi too ‘I am doing this my way’ and would take no help。 I suppose that is the character arc but I found it tiresome。 I was also dissappointed in the lack of follow-up on the loss of the Spice by Z-Man。 The Hutts had wanted this delivered to Coruscant。 There was no mention of the Hutts being angry and going after Z-Man’s family。Overall two books in and The Old Republic has been an enjoyable series。

Nothing groundbreaking, however "Decieved"By Paul S。 kemp is a clash of blades and ideals done right, a Revenge Story within the old Republic that does everything that it's supposed to do。 I didn't exactly adore Kemp's method of constant and quick PoV switching throughout the novel, however his extremely detailed and comprehensive Worldbuilding and rather elaborate descriptions of all the areas this Novels takes place in, was brilliant。Kemp also really nailed the fierce ideological Clash between Nothing groundbreaking, however "Decieved"By Paul S。 kemp is a clash of blades and ideals done right, a Revenge Story within the old Republic that does everything that it's supposed to do。 I didn't exactly adore Kemp's method of constant and quick PoV switching throughout the novel, however his extremely detailed and comprehensive Worldbuilding and rather elaborate descriptions of all the areas this Novels takes place in, was brilliant。Kemp also really nailed the fierce ideological Clash between Jedi and Sith here。Definitely recommend Decieved by Paul S。 kemp。 。。。more

Fun , quick read。 The fight scenes are good。 Every smuggler is a Han, this follows that same type character。 Still a great Star Wars experience, just didn’t send me into hyperdrive。

It was okay。 Not great。 Not terrible。 Would not read again。 I would still recommend it because someone else might like the characters and the story。 It’s a personal thing with me。 I thought it was too emotional。 I disliked all of the characters。 I especially disliked Malgus。 It’s a miracle I finished it since I don’t press on with media if I don’t like the characters。

One of the best Star Wars novels I've ever read。 Not quite as good as Karpyshyn's Path of Destruction, but it comes close。The Old Republic Era is generally something not well known to anyone but the more dedicated Star Wars nerds。 The story takes place during final days of the Great Galactic War, beginning with the Sith sacking of Coruscant。 The Sith ultimately caught the Republic and the Jedi with their pants down and occupied Coruscant, which they used to secure more favorable terms for a trea One of the best Star Wars novels I've ever read。 Not quite as good as Karpyshyn's Path of Destruction, but it comes close。The Old Republic Era is generally something not well known to anyone but the more dedicated Star Wars nerds。 The story takes place during final days of the Great Galactic War, beginning with the Sith sacking of Coruscant。 The Sith ultimately caught the Republic and the Jedi with their pants down and occupied Coruscant, which they used to secure more favorable terms for a treaty signing。Lots to explore here philosophically as well。 Darth Malgus is a conduit through which the reader sees the Sith code put to the test by its own adherents。 The path of the Sith (passion, strength, power, victory, broken chains) feels like simply verbal recitations in the face of the bloated bureaucracy that plagues the Sith Empire, which is more interested in securing an advantageous peace with the Republic as opposed to crushing it while it has the upper hand。 Peace is a lie? Not so much。 Much of the political intrigue surrounding this topic in the book kept me glued to the pages。The best Star Wars stories (for me anyway) are the ones which explore the shades of gray rather than staying in line with the black and white。 The stories that lay out the imperfections of both the Jedi and the Sith。 When we aren't following Malgus, we're following Aryn, the Jedi character in the book。 Far from being the boring good vs evil story that this book could have become, it dares to take some risks。A must read for any Star Wars fan。 。。。more

What a ride。。This is a story about revenge pretty much, but also about loss。 Great story, and for the life of me I'm trying to remember any boring parts about it and I can't。 It really was good and you really get to know Darth Malgus and how evil he can be and how sad and tragic his life was and how you sometimes can feel sad for him but then he does something and you take it right back。 Great story, with nice character development, and even though Veradun is the main character here, the Jedi (A What a ride。。This is a story about revenge pretty much, but also about loss。 Great story, and for the life of me I'm trying to remember any boring parts about it and I can't。 It really was good and you really get to know Darth Malgus and how evil he can be and how sad and tragic his life was and how you sometimes can feel sad for him but then he does something and you take it right back。 Great story, with nice character development, and even though Veradun is the main character here, the Jedi (Aryn) in this story was interesting too, even though I didn't care much about her or what was gonna happen at the end, maybe because she was focused on one thing throughout the whole book。 The smuggler (Zeerid) was more fun to read but whenever you'd read about him or Aryn or anyone really, the pages that would focus just on Malgus were so good that no matter what you're reading about anyone else, you just want to go right back on Malgus' story。And I have to say, you're getting prepared by the author throughout the book after you finally get what the final mission/quest or choice fo path of every character is, you get a sense of what's going to happen that's either this or that at the end, but。。 it goes completely the other way around, and you thought there was no other way around。 And that was shocking to me。I really liked this one as you can tell, and if you're a Star Wars fan then I highly recommend this one!Oh, BEFORE you read this, or after you read the first chapter, you HAVE to watch the cinematic video 'Deceived' on YouTube。 It pretty much paints the picture of how the story starts。 。。。more

Also, the ending had me grinning like an idiot, I was very pleased。

I want to say I enjoyed the Sith love story in this but the book just kept dragging on。 Over all enjoyed the stories behind the characters but honestly the storyline could’ve been over in just a couple chapters。 Not much else to say about this one unfortunately。

oh man。 it's like the shortest in the tor novels so far but it also felt like the longest? i'll be honest and say that getting through this was a drag and it was only through sheer determination i managed to finish it at all。the beginning was so slow, and there was like。 so much tension built but the payoff was very little。 things at the end felt rushed, and sometimes, intense moments were dragged on for too long that it just lost its edge。 i liked aryn tho。 liked reading her internal conflict。 oh man。 it's like the shortest in the tor novels so far but it also felt like the longest? i'll be honest and say that getting through this was a drag and it was only through sheer determination i managed to finish it at all。the beginning was so slow, and there was like。 so much tension built but the payoff was very little。 things at the end felt rushed, and sometimes, intense moments were dragged on for too long that it just lost its edge。 i liked aryn tho。 liked reading her internal conflict。 thought it made her more interesting, more complex。 didn't like how she and zeerid basically hooked up at the near end of the book despite having very little chemistry。 it felt rushed and it came more of a surprise to me than whatever plot twist this book had。 like。 i know its trying to mirror a dynamic in the original films but also it just fell flat that it felt so forced and unnecessary。malgus was interesting, i guess。 like there was a complexity in him that felt unexplored。 i didnt like reading his chapters because it always felt too edgy。 like, whatever complexity he carried was ultimately lost in his monologues that read too much like an edgy teen venting his angst。 couldn't take it seriously。 had to stop because of all those descriptors。zeerid was just there。 didn't like him, didn't dislike him。 he's plain, unremarkable in most ways, didn't have much role in the book except for being aryn's companion。 i probably wouldn't even know it if he got cut out of some parts and replaced with a cardboard loloverall, it's just something i wouldnt recommend。 aryn's cool but even she couldn't save this whole thing alone。 malgus's character was better portrayed in the game, and the battle scenes weren't that good either, so if you're looking for mindless entertainment, you'd best get it elsewhere。 if you're just invested in tor novels and would love to know more about background lore of the game, go ahead and read this。 。。。more

No one taught Malgus that "Honor is a fool's prize。"The writing zips in between the characters at different locations and times (albeit linearly) as if it were a written narrative of a movie。 Which is in theme I guess and typical of these novels。 It works sometimes, better for some than others。 It worked okay for this novel。 It was not the best in guiding and maintaining momentum, but instead, stretching time。 It sure was Star Wars but this is not one of the better novels in Legends。 Though Decieved is still a shining gold star above Disney schmuck。 2/5 。。。more

Another epic Old Republic tale。 This series continues to impress with a new cast of characters following the previous book, Revan。 The story was full of the kind of Star Wars action everyone needs and wants。 The villain had depth as well as the main protagonists。 A must read for Star Wars EU fans。
